Nigel Farage promises to bollock Zia Yusuf over ‘traitor’ X post

In the wake of Ann Widdecombe‘s alleged murder, Reform UK members complained that they were being unfairly criticised by politicians and journalists.

According to them, the level of intense criticism they receive is beyond the pale and puts them at risk of violence.

While it’s certainly the case that UK political discourse has become increasingly heated, there is a problem for Reform in all this; namely that their politicians are the ones who have most obviously turned up the heat.

The latest example of a Reform politician throwing around extreme rhetoric was Zia Yusuf, who called Tory Ben Wallace a “traitor”. The resulting backlash has proven to be so great that his boss Nigel Farage has now promised to discipline him.

Yusuf called former defence secretary Wallace a “traitor” in the following X post:

Yusuf’s message continued:

They will serve their full jail terms there, and will be banned from ever coming back to Britain.

They may well include some of the thousands of Afghans you imported, including those who had not been vetted properly and including Taliban fighters (!).

You know, the ones you took a super injunction out to keep secret from the British people?

That’s why I call you a traitor to Britain.

You fit the dictionary definition [Ben Wallace]

Unlike some in the media, we’re not going to defend Wallace from any and all criticism. What we will do is point out why “traitor” is such a loaded term; namely because the crime was traditionally linked to the death penalty.

In other words, when a would-be member of government labels another politician a traitor, the implicit message is ‘I’m going to kill you when I take power‘.

Yusuf could claim he’s not smart enough to understand the implication. The problem is he very recently posted the following:

The t-shirt in the image above features a guillotine besides the message, ‘We’re only making plans for Nigel’. Zack Polanski accepted a request to collaborate with the photographer who posted this picture, which meant it went live on his Instagram.

It’s not acceptable for politicians to call for the death of their rivals — accidentally or otherwise. Yusuf seemed to understand this at the time. Sometime between then and now, though, he forgot.

And the guillotine post was less than two weeks ago.

Yusuf is in the doghouse

The Mail’s Dan Hodges said the following of Yusuf:

Yusuf has already resigned from a party position once. When he stepped down as chairman in June 2025, he said:

I no longer believe working to get a Reform government elected is a good use of my time, and hereby resign the office.

Yusuf also made similar “traitor” comments about a man who went on to become his colleague:

This is clearly a volatile man, and Reform UK is obviously a chaotic party. It managed to keep it together when they were riding high in the polls, but now that Labour has taken the lead, the wheels are coming off. In other words, expect more blow-ups in the weeks and months to come.
