Incoming PM Andy Burnham claimed he would bring “the biggest change in our lifetimes”. But instead he is bringing Starmeroid ‘business as usual’. Burnham shows no sign of undoing any of Starmer’s police-state measures intended to protect Israel, and in fact indicates he will take them further. And he has praised Starmer’s attack on free speech about the illegal US-Israel war on Iran. As his first use of his rushed-through law, Starmer has ‘designated‘ Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) — Burnham thinks this is great.

Starmer’s new ‘National Security (State Threats) Act’ is an extension of supposed ‘anti-terror’ legislation, clearly designed to suppress reporting and discussion of news the UK government dislikes. Anyone who even uses information from a ‘designated’ organisation faces up to fourteen years in prison. There is no exemption for journalism.

Shamefully, Burnham approves – but his support for the ban was quickly ‘ratioed’, a sign of a deeply unpopular comment:

The more than 1,200 replies to Burnham’s endorsement of authoritarianism overwhelmingly pointed to one theme. If the IRGC should be banned, why isn’t the Israeli military — which actually murders people, not just threatens — also banned?

Many hundreds more feel the same. Burnham’s ‘honeymoon period’ hasn’t even lasted until he gets into Downing Street. Deservedly so.
