The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League has been pushed into the spotlight. This happened after a Division Two match between Saltburn Cricket Club and Norton Cricket Club produced one of the strangest amateur cricket controversies of the summer. A fielder is accused of clicking his fingers at slip to mimic the sound of an edge, allegedly influencing umpires into giving batters out. The incident, captured on video and shared widely across social media, has triggered a formal investigation. It has also raised questions about conduct, gamesmanship and the boundaries of fair play at grassroots level. The clip, filmed during…

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham, who is trying to win re-election this summer, faces yet more alleged scandal. She has been accused by union insiders of collaborating with right-wing, friend-of-Israel MP Wes Streeting to write an attack piece on Ed Miliband. The plan was to “boost” right-winger Streeting’s prospects under incoming PM Andy Burnham. Hatchet job Miliband was tipped to become chancellor when Burnham takes over from lame duck Keir Starmer. However, Starmer’s team, which includes the same people who ran Starmer, is now said to have ‘blocked‘ the appointment. The ‘Reunite the union’ page, run by figures close to the…

Israel and Unilever reportedly collaborated in order to bypass a boycott call by the anti-genocide founders of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenstein called for an end to the sale of their products in Israel. Cohen was even arrested after disrupting a US Senate sitting to demand action to protect Palestinian children. But In June 2026, the official ‘Israel’ X account posted (now deleted) a boast about a new flavour by the brand launching in Israel. The Israeli Haaretz newspaper posted about the ‘milk and honey’ flavour, complete with chocolate ‘stars of David’: Did Ben and Jerry’s just drop…

Nigel Farage had an absolute nightmare on 23 June. After weeks of ducking the media, he returned to TV studios to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Brexit. The consequence of this was that everyone got to see why Farage has been avoiding journalists – namely because they’d ask about the ‘£5m gift’ scandal. While most of the attention has been on Farage’s inability to provide a good answer to this, there was another response that has drawn criticism. It’s a response that HSBC whistleblower ‘Mr Ethical’ has made everyone aware of: Farage claimed in interviews today that he claimed 0 in…

The Reform-led council in St Helens has instructed all local libraries to take down displays promoting or funding anything relating to Pride or Refugee Week. This Orwellian – and bigoted – move comes just as Refugee Week is set to commence, between the 15th and 21st June, and shuts down the long-seen practice of libraries highlighting resources which increase understanding and compassion towards marginalised communities. At the same time, the council have afforded £200k of taxpayers’ money to pay a consultant to ‘educate’ elected Reform councillors on the inner workings of the council over four years. This follows a comment made…
