Campaigners demand Andy Burnham delivers Autism Strategy

Disabled campaigners have written to Andy Burnham to demand he immediately establishes a new autistic-led Autism Strategy ahead of the Autumn Budget. Deliver for Autism, a newly formed advocacy group, has published an open letter calling on the prime minister to not let autistic people down. The letter was created by autistic campaigner Chelsea Webster, and backed by well-known disabled campaigners and allies, such as Elle McNicoll, Lou Chandler and Sally Phillips. Autism Strategy must be developed ‘now’ Webster says in the letter: I am asking you to support autistic people by committing to a working group made up of diverse…

India completed a 3-0 T20I sweep of ZimbabweΒ in Harare as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi struck another fluent half-century, sealing a result that also returned India to the top of the T20i rankings and nudged England down to second. The 15-year-old left-hander, already the standout story of India’s white-ball summer, produced an assured and inventive 81 from 49 balls, an innings featuring four sixes and eight fours and underpinned by crisp timing and controlled aggression. His latest effort followed the 19-ball fifty he hammered in Thursday’s series opener, making this his second half-century in three innings on the tour. It also reinforced the impression…

Germany’s World Cup campaign ended with a thud in Boston as Paraguay held their nerve from the spot to dump out the four‑time champions after a tense 1-1 draw over 120 minutes. The underdogs, ranked 34th in the world, survived long stretches without the ball, frustrated Germany’s attack, and then outlasted them in a dramatic shoot-out to reach the last 16.Β  Julio Enciso’s first‑half header gave Paraguay a surprise lead. Although Kai Havertz levelled shortly after the break, Germany never found the extra gear they needed. Their dominance in possession, 78% in the first half counted for nothing as Paraguay’s defensive…

Political candidate Jonathan Harvey β€” also known as ‘Count Binface’ β€” stood in the Makerfield by-election for comedy value rather than in hope of winning. But even a comedy candidate has more political honesty than racist Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. Notably, the peculiar atmosphere of Makerfield displayed just how easily humour can inform local politics. Quizzed by Sky News about his candidacy and whether he lived in the constituency, Harvey promised he would move there if he won, and reminding viewers that Farage “spends more time in America than in Clacton.” Farage is notionally the MP for Clacton in Essex,…

Kemi Badenoch has announced her intention to “repeal the public sector equality duty in its entirety”. The PSED, or simply “the duty”, requires public sector leaders to abide by equality considerations set out in the 2010 Equality Act. Principally, this means working to prevent discrimination against people with protected characteristics (race, sex, disability etc), and monitoring the outcomes of that work. The news comes just a week after Nigel Farage weaponised the tragic murder of Henry Nowak as an excuse to attack diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Vickrum Digwa, a British Asian man, stabbed Nowak, then told police he had…
