Anybody out there remember Ofwat issuing a ban on water bosses’ bonuses at the tail-end of 2025? Well apparently Thames Water doesn’t — it just increased its senior managers’ bonus payouts to an eye-watering £4.1m. As the Canary reported only yesterday, 15 July, the prospect of public ownership is looming over the failed, sewage-spewing water company. The company is currently buried under £18.5 billion of debt, up from £16.8 billion a year ago, and is set to run out of money at the end of the year. What better time for the bosses to cut themselves a nice fat paycheck, eh? Job well…

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has taken a fresh step towards historic ignominy by pushing through a vote to fulfil its Nations League fixtures against the genocidal apartheid entity of ‘Israel’. In a statement, the FAI explained: At an Extraordinary General Meeting on Wednesday, July 8th, members were asked to vote on the following ordinary motion: “While acknowledging the strength of feeling regarding support for Palestine and the upcoming UEFA Men’s Nations League fixtures, that the members recognise the profound impact that any non-fulfilment of UEFA fixtures would have on Irish football as a whole and on its future development,…

Union bosses’ fossil activism makes an enemy of the global working class

Sharon Graham is the general secretary of Unite, the trade union. However, with rogue comments this week in defence of British fossil fuel interests, she appears to be making an enemy of the global working class. She’s joined by GMB chief Gary Smith, who’s been briefing the Times about net-zero ‘madness’. As the UK awaits the coronation of Makerfield MP Andy Burnham — and, perhaps more importantly, his cabinet-in-waiting — Ed Miliband’s name crops up repeatedly. This is hardly surprising, since Miliband has served different roles on Labour’s front benches, including as leader, for much of two decades. Miliband’s core commitment is…

In spite of profits for the Royal Mail’s parent company dropping by 20%, chief executive Martin Seidenberg has more than tripled his ‘earnings’ for the year. The International Distribution Services (IDS) boss took home £2.1m in the year to 31 March 2025, which shot up to £7m this year. Likewise, his fellow directors raked in a combined £9.8m this year, up from £4.2m the previous year. Meanwhile, the Royal Mail’s operating profits dropped from £198m to £96m in the same period. IDS blamed the rise in the minimum wage and national insurance contributions. Back in March, Parliament summoned Royal Mail bosses…

“Cynical act of deception” by Irish football bosses claiming Palestinian support for ‘Israel’ match

In a devastating humiliation for the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), the Palestine Football Association (PFA) has said it never issued any statement backing the FAI’s decision to proceed with Ireland’s match against so-called ‘Israel’. This is despite the Irish football chiefs putting out a statement last week clearly intended to indicate the opposite. Sinn Féin TD Joanna Byrne described the FAI’s move as an “unforgivable cynical act of deception”. Byrne continued: What this clarification lays bare is a contemptible sleight of hand by the FAI – a sleight of hand that will be met by resistance by the football community…
