Protest group Led by Donkeys has received more than Β£27,000 in compensation for a banner unlawfully taken by the Greater London Authority and subsequently destroyed. The banner, which read “Yes, it’s a genocide”, was seized during a peaceful protest in Parliament Square. It was taken as part of the UK’s authoritarian war on speech and protest against Israel’s crimes against humanity. It was later destroyed by waste management company Veolia, which has now paid compensation of Β£27,216. The firm claimed it had destroyed the banner because storing it was a health and safety issue. Equity calls on Manchester City Council to ensure Pride performers are paid

With six weeks to go until Manchester Village Pride, performing arts union Equity is calling on Manchester City Council to ensure that performers out of pocket from last year’s Manchester Pride collapse get the pay due for their work. Pride takes place from 28-31 August this year under a new Community Interest Company rooted in Manchester’s Gay Village. This follows the collapse of Manchester Pride in 2025.
