Thames Water is one of the most scandal-struck companies in the UK. The good news is it’s so in debt that the UK could use special measures to take it into public hands without paying them out. Unfortunately, though, the government doesn’t seem to have much interest in doing so. It’s been widely reported that Andy Burnham wants to ‘renationalise’ vital public industries and utilities. This sounds good, because people hate privatisation, and they want the UK to once more own its own assets.
