Trump signed two new executive orders on Thursday. These orders were aimed at narrowing birthright citizenship. This came just a month after the Supreme Court struck down his previous attempt. According to Fox News, “the new directives rely on existing executive and immigration authorities and are intended to narrow eligibility for automatic citizenship in certain cases while cracking down on foreigners who travel to the United States to give birth.” Trump announced the orders in the Oval Office, with adviser Stephen Miller looking on. Miller called birth tourism “a fraud on the American system” and “a fraud against the American government.”…

Despite the German state’s slavish support for Israel and its brutal repression of anti-genocide protest, the pro-Palestine movement has scored a major legal victory. The Zweibrücken Higher Regional Court has ruled that comparing Israel with the Nazis is legal. German law bans the display of swastikas and other Nazi-linked symbols. However, the court ruled that they can legally be used: If someone uses the signs for sharp criticism of the methods of the State of Israel and is thus accompanied by a clear distancing or condemnation of Nazi injustice. Back in March, the Labour government’s bill to restrict access to jury trials – a right enjoyed by English citizens for over 800 years – successfully passed its first reading. But last week, only hours after former Justice Minister David Lammy was dropped from Andy Burnham’s new cabinet, a Downing Street spokesperson announced that the newly coronated Prime Minister had no intention of following through with the plan. Eyebrows were raised, however, at the ministerial re-appointment of Sarah Sackman, Keir Starmer’s ex-solicitor general and a key supporter of Lammy’s jury proposals. Sackman has previously worked as a foreign law clerk at…

The Supreme Court has today granted Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori permission to challenge the government’s continued terrorism ban on the group. Palestine Action was ‘proscribed’ in July 2025. The ban was overturned in February 2026 by the High Court, which found it unlawful. Shabana Mahmood – still home secretary despite a change of PM – was allowed to go to the Court of Appeals. The appeals court overturned the High Court’s decision in June 2026, ruling that Mahmood was better placed than legal experts to decide what is a justified infringement on UK human rights. But today, 30 July 2026,…

On 7 July 2026, the High Court will hear an application for permission to bring a judicial review of Croydon council’s decision to close its walk-in homelessness service, Access Croydon, in March 2025. The claim is brought by a vulnerable individual who wishes to remain anonymous, represented by the Public Interest Law Centre. Campaign groups have voiced shock and outrage at the “biggest rollback of disability rights in a generation” following a Supreme Court ruling concerning individuals who lack the capacity to consent to their living arrangements. In a joint statement, the charities Mencap, Mind, and the National Autistic Society warned that the regressive ruling could see hundreds of thousands of severely disabled people lose fundamental human rights protections. They added that: By removing independent checks, advocacy, and automatic access to legal aid, the Court has closed the gateway to justice and support for many who need it most. Stripping away these safeguards makes…

Breaking: Swiss court shames UK by refusing to criminalise anti-genocide protest

  • Post author:

A court in Geneva has confirmed that peaceful opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza is a legitimate right. As Palestinian exile Muzna Shihabi notes, the landmark decision:  Acknowledges that a genocide is underway.  Rules that nothing justifies sanctioning peaceful activists.  Confirms that freedom of expression protects non-violent civil disobedience and that repressing these mobilizations is incompatible with democracy. A lesson for the genocide-enabling Starmer government and its war on free speech and peaceful protest, as respondents are already noting: @Keir_Starmer @YvetteCooperMP Imagine how it must feel to finish your day in the knowledge that your actions let you sleep with a…
