NaVCIS logged 3424 HGV cargo crime incidents in 2025, nine a day across a network that has no dedicated police crime code for any of it. A driver parks a loaded curtainsider at a layby off the A5 because there is nowhere else to stop, and by morning the load is gone. The loss gets recorded as theft from a vehicle, the same category that covers a smashed car window in a supermarket car park.
