This is a statement from Campaign Opposing Police Surveillance regarding the Undercover Policing Inquiry Following elation at the progress of the Hillsborough law, victims of spycops were confronted on 16 July with a Home Office ‘consultation’ into the future of the Undercover Policing Inquiry. We are shocked and surprised by the announcement and deeply concerned that this is an attempt to shut this Inquiry down. We have been requesting a meeting with the Sponsor Department of the Home Office for more than a year and have been stonewalled. Now, we are presented with this multiple choice survey which clearly demonstrates that…

A retired Church of England vicar and three Christian climate activists have been convicted of aggravated trespass. This is after they dropped a huge banner saying “Don’t Crucify Creation” from the tower of Bath Abbey. They’ve accused church officials of prioritising tourism over planetary breakdown and billions of deaths. They were part of a national day of action on September 13, 2025, by Christian Climate Action (CCA). The group called on the Church of England to speak out more clearly and persistently about the Climate and Nature Emergency and the existential threat to people and all life on Earth. The activists…

For the last two years, the international criminal court (ICC) has been struggling to navigate serious allegations levelled at its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan. Two women, who previously worked with Khan in varying capacities, came forward in 2024 with claims of sexual abuse, harassment, and coercion. He denies all allegations. Khan was suspended whilst the ICC undertook two investigations. Both have since concluded, albeit with differing outcomes. The first found that the women’s claims had merit; the second found that the evidence was insufficient. Now, the two women have spoken publicly about their experiences, as well as addressing counter-claims that they…

Count Binface: A serious electoral profile for a deeply un-serious country

The race for the Clacton parliamentary by-election looks as though it will come down to just two candidates. One is a sad caricature of a fascist who’s making a vicious mockery of democracy in the UK. The other wears a bin on his head (AKA Count Binface). Nigel Farage triggered the by-election after dramatically quitting his seat on 7 July. The far-right leader was facing multiple investigations and scandals at the time, including: Failing to declare financial support he received from a convicted fraudster in the run-up to the 2024 election; Multiple investigations into a £5m gift he received from a…

Greater Manchester Tenants Union (GMTU) are holding a demonstration to demand rent freezes from incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham. Principles and evidence alike support their claims. GMTU’s demo takes place on 17 July at Albert Square at 6pm outside Manchester Town Hall. The event follows the first ever demonstration yesterday outside the proposed site for Burnham’s planned ‘Number 10 North’. Some 20+ organisations attended, demanding ‘More Than Manchesterism‘. The new PM officially takes office on 20 June, having waltzed the Labour leadership remarkably uncontested. He replaces woefully unpopular Keir Starmer, who cried goodbye earlier this week. So much for Number 10…

In an interview with the Canary, author Matt Kennard has said that to understand geopolitics the US must be understood as the global centre of war and fascism. And he dates the current wildness of the world’s biggest terror state to the so-called ‘war on terror‘. The Bush administration removed barriers that had prevented right-wing extremists entering the US military. Now they are running it – and at the top of both sides of US two-party politics: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Canary (@thecanaryuk) Kennard: “Extremists are at the wheel” Kennard’s newly-updated book, Irregular Army, “shows how…

Police misogyny has filed women — But racism compounds these failures with fatal consequences

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:17 July 2026

Police forces across the country have repeatedly failed to protect women and girls, with the Metropolitan Police frequently exposed as one of the worst offenders in allowing misogyny to persist within its ranks. These institutional failures do not simply undermine trust in policing; they compound the trauma experienced by victims and survivors of violence against women and girls. For Black women, however, the consequences of these failures can be even more devastating. When racism compounds an already entrenched culture of misogyny, discrimination and disbelief, it leaves Black women facing male violence more exposed and further denies them the protection, justice and…

The grandson of one of Africa’s most iconic post-colonial leaders has told a court in London why he helped the protest group Palestine Action. William Nyerere Plastow, 35, is charged with criminal damage in connection with a Palestine Action raid at an Israeli-owned arms factory in Bristol in August 2024.
