FIFA is considering expanding the men’s World Cup to 64 teams for the 2030 tournament. This would mark the competition’s 100th anniversary. According to documents seen by Reuters, football’s governing body will begin a formal review of the proposal on 14 August. An independent organisation will be asked to assess whether the expansion is workable. Its findings are due by 11 September, before FIFA decides whether to take the idea any further.
