Genocidal terrorist Ben-Gvir suggests kidnapping Lebanese women and children

Itamar Ben-Gvir, a genocidal terrorist and Israeli Minister of National Security, has suggested that Israel kidnap Lebanese women and children to “break Hezbollah’s morale”. That’s right, after he spent two years pleading with the world to help release the Israeli hostages and using it to justify carpet-bombing Gaza, Ben-Gvir now wants Israel to take even more hostages than it already has in its prisons. By his own standards, that gives Lebanon the right to flatten the whole of Israel. During a security cabinet meeting, where several officials backed escalating its illegal attacks in Lebanon, Ben-Gvir said: Let’s start thinking outside the…

How the Trump family cashed in with India’s richest cronies

The Trump family pocketed at least $100 million from India’s richest dynasty, the Ambanis, through a secret stake in an obscure Texas refinery startup. A pattern also seen with another billionaire, Gautam Adani, reveals a consistent U.S. strategy: first, threaten tariffs, sanctions, or prosecution; then, after money flows from Indian billionaires toward the U.S., make the legal and trade problems disappear. In exchange for the Indian investment in the Texas refinery startup, the White House delivered a string of major policy wins for the Indian energy conglomerate, including a Venezuelan oil license, according to a ProPublica investigation published Tuesday. NEW: Earlier…

CND is calling on the government to stop wasting public money on its nuclear weapons black hole. Collectively, the nine nuclear weapons states spent a record $119bn in 2025 on maintaining, modernising and expanding their nuclear arsenals. This was an increase of 19% ($16.8 billion) on the 2024 bill. The Mental Health Foundation has released The Foundation Reports: The state of mental health inequality in the UK, based on data following 40,000 individuals over 15 years. The report found higher levels of poor mental health than recently reported in other datasets. One in four adults in the UK (25%) now experiences mental distress. That’s 14 million people. This has risen from 17% since the period immediately following the 2008 financial crisis. And that means an additional 4.8 million people now experience poor mental health just 16 years later. The evaluation of the Understanding Society dataset involved examining data gathered from…

Genocidal British lord wants IOF to ‘finish the job’ in Lebanon

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:11 June 2026

Howard Leigh, a Tory peer, has asked the House of Lords why it was stopping Israel’s occupation forces (IOF) from being able to “finish the job” in Lebanon. Leigh, disgustingly, said: The only successful way of dealing with, in effect, Iran in Lebanon through Hezbollah, is through military action. At what point do the British Government stop spending British taxpayers’ money helping the Lebanese Government, and, instead, allow the IDF to finish the job? His words were so shockingly genocidal that even Starmer’s ally and Cabinet MP Jenny Chapman had to respond with how wrong Israel’s actions were: With respect, I…

Politicians and commenters condemn white riots following Belfast stabbing

  • Post author:

Politicians and social commentators from across the UK have taken to social media to condemn the racist riots that have swept Belfast – and the shameless far-right agitators who helped fan the flames. As the Canary previously reported, rioters carried out a wave of pogroms in Belfast and nearby towns over the last two days, carrying out arson attacks on homes belonging to people of colour. The racists also attacked businesses they perceived as the property of ‘foreigners’, blocked roads, and set fire to vehicles. The hate crimes followed a knife attack, reportedly perpetrated by a Sudanese man, on the evening of…

Activists occupied the Gherkin’s foyer in protest against insurance company Swiss Re’s refusal to rule out liquefied natural gas projects in the Coral Triangle on international Coral Triangle Day. Protesters chanted: “Protect our oceans, protect our future!” and “Swiss Re, you can’t hide, don’t insure this ecocide!” The Coral Triangle spans much of South East Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste. When the protesters tried to deliver a letter to Swiss Re, they were refused. Security guards man-handled young people and dragged a scientist participating in the protest to the revolving door, where…

Ancient woodland saved in council’s rejection of UK’s last opencast coal application

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

Carmarthenshire County Council has rejected Bryn Bach Coal Ltd’s second attempt to expand and extend the currently dormant Glan Lash opencast coal mine, about 15 miles north of Swansea. This followed hundreds of hand-written and online objections from residents in the county. The decision reflects a clear, strategic commitment to climate leadership, rare habitat protection, and safeguarding the health of surrounding communities. There are no live applications for new coal mines, and only two active coal mines remain in the UK. One is a large underground mine in Aberpergwm, Glynneath, the other a small underground mine called Ayle Colliery in Northumberland.…

Netanyahu’s order for 70% Israeli control of Gaza is not ‘self-defence’ – it’s ethnic cleansing

  • Post author:

The International Centre of Justice for Palestinians has commented on Israeli plans to seize control of even more of Gaza: Benjamin Netanyahu’s order to the IDF [Israel’s name for its military occupation forces] to seize control of at least 70% of the Gaza Strip is an egregious violation of the so-called ‘ceasefire’ that Israel has violated more than 3,000 times since October. Increasing Israeli occupation of Gaza has gone unchecked and the so-called ‘yellow line’ has continually expanded, with Israeli soldiers operating an open-fire policy on any Palestinians who finds themselves within the no man’s land, most of whom are in…

UAE wants a loyalty pledge amid deportation spree of Shia Muslims

  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

The US and Israel-allied state, the UAE, has launched an initiative calling citizens and residents to digitally “reaffirm their dedication to the nation’s core values of unity, coexistence, and tolerance,” as it has also deported 5,000 to 18,000 Shia Pakistanis recently since the US-Israel war on Iran began in February. The two actions by the Gulf state show it is anxious to ward off working-class solidarity against its alliance with Zionism. This follows a broader pattern of the UAE aligning with Washington. The Gulf state has reportedly joined US-Israeli strikes on Iran, requested dollar swap lines tying its economy to America, and exited…

100 days of Trump’s war on Iran: Trump rambles, prevaricates, and walks off an interview

  • Post author:

In an NBC interview recorded on Friday, US President Donald Trump repeatedly defended his war of choice on Iran. He said Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was a “good comrade” but disagreed with him, stating that strikes on Lebanon should be more surgical than they are. However, the Financial Times (FT) reported that Trump later insisted he “calls the shots” and that Netanyahu has “no choice” but to accept any deal with Iran. The FT said they had verified a leaked call in which Trump called Netanyahu “fucking crazy” and told him he would be in prison without him. “I call all…

Polanski warns UK food system is close to collapse

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has warned that food insecurity is not a distant threat. He says it’s already impacting customers, farmers and workers in the food industry. In a speech to the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union on 8 June, Polanski warned that the UK’s food system is close to collapse. He spoke of pressures from rising temperatures and global instability and called for urgent action to support the UK’s food resilience. The speech comes as figures from the Autonomy Institute show that UK fruit and veg prices could rise 170% by 2050. And the climate crisis is likely…

Support staff at Ash Field Academy in Leicester were on strike from 3-5 June. This is part of a campaign to demand the reinstatement of victimised union rep Tom Barker. Barker was suspended on 30 October 2025. After more than seven months, three separate investigations, and five investigation meetings, Discovery Schools Academy Trust [DSAT], which runs Ash Field, is still refusing to reinstate Barker. Barker was suspended just three working days after UNISON members voted to strike over staffing cuts. Andrea Egan, UNISON’s general secretary, was in attendance at the Thursday 4 June picket. Magazine the New Internationalist, facing the possibility of being forced to cease publication, has launched an appeal to raise £150,000 by 7 July. The independent, cooperatively owned magazine celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. The magazine said it was facing “the closest we have ever been to the lights going out for good,” explaining that costs have “soared” while readers are less able to pay. In addition, AI and algorithm changes have hit their website traffic, and that grants are “harder to come by” as funders have shifted priorities. Western politicians and media heaps tributes on the author of Persepolis

Obituaries for Franco-Iranian artist and author of Persepolis Marjane Satrapi are pouring in from Western politicians and media following news of her death in Paris at age 56 on Thursday. Western establishments’ obituaries revealed a pattern of appreciating Satrapi for opposing Iran’s government, reflecting their ever-present instinct of Islamophobia. “Persepolis” was a bestselling graphic novel series by Satrapi. Most of them admire her as CNN puts it as: an outspoken critic of Iran’s ruling establishment and a prominent supporter of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement. Satrapi was married to Mattias Ripa, who helped translate ‘Persepolis’ into English. He died last year.…
