As of the 13 July, new regulations have come into effect for all police forces which will impact vetting procedures and suspensions. The government is rolling out the “complex and wide-ranging” rule change as part of its pledge to end violence against women and girls (VAWG). It follows a campaign from the charity Refuge, ‘Remove the Rot’, which kicked off in 2023 and subsequently found a “shocking scale of police-perpetrated VAWG” which meant women and girls could not trust the police to protect them. White House requests $67bn for Iran war — where it already declared victory

The White House house has now asked Congress to grant a funding request for $87.6bn, some $67bn of which will go straight to the US ‘War Department’. For the most part, the massive bill is directly related to “urgent needs” regarding the war in Iran. The news comes after the US Senate passed its symbolic War Powers Resolution on 23 June. Four Republicans supported the resolution, which nominally forbids Trump from continuing hostilities against Iran without congressional approval. However, it doesn’t carry the weight of law. Nowak’s tragic death another incident where police get it fatally wrong

The Chief Constable of Hampshire Police told the BBC that the footage of officers arresting Henry Nowak while he lay bleeding from stab wounds left him feeling as “distressed” as the wider public. Officers handcuffed Nowak and read him his rights despite his obvious injuries. Ultimately, the court sentenced his killer, Vickrum Digwa, to a minimum of 21 years in prison for the murder. Prosecutors will soon continue proceedings against Digwa’s mother for allegedly concealing the knife used in the attack.
