NaVCIS logged 3424 HGV cargo crime incidents in 2025, nine a day across a network that has no dedicated police crime code for any of it. A driver parks a loaded curtainsider at a layby off the A5 because there is nowhere else to stop, and by morning the load is gone. On 9 July at 6pm there will be protests across England and Scotland against the new Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Code of Practice. It leaves trans people with even fewer rights than before the Supreme Court judgment in April 2025. The EHRC Code of Practice was laid before parliament on 21 May for a 40 day scrutiny period, which is due to expire soon. The Early Day Motion to reject the Equality and Human Rights Commissions (EHRC) transphobic Code of Practice has now hit 165 signatures. As such, the motion’s author — Nottingham East Labour MP Nadia Whittome — has called for equalities minister Bridget Phillipson to withdraw the code. The milestone means that over a quarter of all MPs have now signed the forlorn-hope statement. Genocide prevention watchdog slams EHRC’s transphobic code with searing response

On 20 June, the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention and Human Security issued a statement condemning the UK Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) anti-trans Code of Practice, which is currently up for parliamentary scrutiny. For those unfamiliar, the Lemkin Institute is a multinational, non-governmental organisation which monitors for signs of genocide around the world. It was named for Raphael Lemkin, the Polish-Jewish lawyer who coined the term ‘genocide’, and campaigned to instate the UN’s convention on the crime. Whittome’s Early Day Motion to reject the EHRC’s transphobic code passes 100 signatures

Labour MP Nadia Whittome has announced a motion to reject the Equalities and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) transphobic Code of Practice. Rachel Taylor MP, likewise of Labour, also gave a moving account of why she signed the motion. Whittome and Taylor have also urged other MPs to sign the motion. To this end, trans rights campaign groups TransActual, Trans+ Solidarity Alliance, and Scottish Trans have created an email template for constituents to write to their MPs to urge them to sign.
