This is a statement from the Cambridge & South Cambridgeshire Green Party The Green group on Cambridge city council has confirmed that it will not be entering a proposed rainbow coalition with Labour or the Liberal Democrats. Instead, it put forward and voted for its deputy leader Sefira Davison to lead the city council. Sadly the Lib Dems chose to abstain on the vote, lending their tacit support to enable a continuation of the Labour run administration, rather than agreeing to collaborate with Green councillors to bring about the change that residents voted for. Despite constructive efforts from the Green group,…

MSM scrape barrel to attack Greens’ Makerfield candidate

Yesterday, Skwawkbox predicted that the ‘mainstream’ media (MSM) and Israel lobby would struggle to find anything to use against new Green party Makerfield by-election candidate Sarah Wakefield. It wasn’t a compliment. But Wakefield’s apparent silence on important issues like Gaza means that the ‘MSM’ is, as predicted, scraping right through the bottom of the barrel. So far, it’s had to pick on the blandest things imaginable — like wanting fairer farming. Their narrative of the Green Party is as dull as it is revealing. MSM panic at “decolonising” pledges The Murdoch Times has dedicated a whole, quite lengthy article and two…

There are many people attached to the Labour Party who have argued the Greens should do the ‘decent thing’ and stand down in the Makerfield by-election. The counter-argument to this is why would they? And as the Greens’ deputy leader Mothin Ali has now said: If Burnham can't win an election without the Greens giving him an easy ride, how's he going to beat Reform in a general election? — Mothin Ali (@MothinAli) May 26, 2026 Put up or shut up The Makerfield race may be the most decisive by-election in British electoral history. If Andy Burnham wins, he will almost…

A Green Party membership coalition has hit back at senior party figures, urging the Greens to stand aside in the Makerfield by-election. Their letter‘s message is unambiguous: the grassroots will not be managed into irrelevance. Green grassroots hitting back at Burnham The Canary can reveal a letter signed by Green Party members, circulating in response to a joint statement from high-profile party figures including former co-leader Jonathan Bartley and ex-councillor Rupert Read. It calls on Zack Polanski to rule out stepping aside for Labour’s Andy Burnham in Makerfield. Over 120 members and counting have so far signed the open letter, launched…

“Vote in hope” – Greens announce Sarah Wakefield as new Makerfield candidate

The Green Party has announced Manchester councillor Sarah Wakefield as its new candidate for the Makerfield by-election. The announcement comes after the withdrawal of Chris Kennedy from the contest. Wakefield launched her campaign by calling on voters: Don’t vote in anger, vote in hope. There’s plenty to be angry about outside of Makerfield. From the sabotage of his own party by departing MP Josh Simons and his group, to the continued red-Tory policies of Labour under Starmer, to the racism of the Reform candidate. Voters have every right to be livid. But Wakefield is right that Makerfield needs hope. So does…

The Greens for Palestine group has issued a strong demand to its party functionaries: stop throwing our candidates under the bus to pander to the Israel lobby. The message comes after the Greens’ Makerfield by-election candidate stepped down – presumably pressured – for sharing a post about Golders Green. The group of party members wants to know – who is selecting Green candidates, party members or the Israel lobby, the Zionist Labour party and hostile press? Greens for Palestine call out cowardice dressed as pragmatism It reads: Yesterday, we witnessed yet another chilling example of the same press that has spent over…
