The vast majority of parents in Britain and the north of Ireland feel “financial and emotional pressure” during the summer, according to research carried out by Save the Children. The charity polled 2,000 parents and found 88% are struggling with money worries during the long days, triggered by factors like added childcare costs and the pressure to take their children on holidays abroad. Evidence in the Undercover Policing Inquiry recently revealed that BAE Systems, the UK’s largest arms company, offered the Metropolitan police money to spy on anti arms trade campaigners. This followed the 1996 Seeds of Hope Ploughshares action which caused £1.4m worth of damage to Hawk aircraft. The Metropolitan Police has now launched a formal investigation into potential wrongdoing following an Electoral Commission investigation into reports that a £37.5k donation to Robert Jenrick’s Tory leadership campaign had originated overseas — Reform UK isn’t alone. The most troubling detail is that funds said to have been donated by Spott Fitness businessman Phillip Ullmann actually contained a £37.5k sum donated by a US company Innovyz.
