South Lebanon resilience — “We will not leave our homes!”

South Lebanon — The road to al-Mansouri, a village cut in half by Israel’s yellow line, tells its own story. We pass through an endless exhibition of risk-free actions by the so-called occupiers. Burnt out vehicles from hits by drones. Homes and infrastructure destroyed by those guided bombs from fighter jets. But the road also tells a different story. Resistance flags are defiantly planted in the rubble of each and every demolished building. Portraits of martyrs proudly adorn the lamp posts. The countryside is reminiscent of all my journeys to south Lebanon. Rolling hills connected by endlessly twisting carriageways through villages…

In a scathing new report, the International Development Economics Associates Limited (IDEAs) has documented the heavy toll Global South continues to pay for a war it did not create — as corporations cash in. The report describes a state of siege across the Global South region, with countries facing mounting economic pressure as the fallout from the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran spreads. Global South picks up the tab The report stated that operations of Epic Fury waged by the US, and Roaring Lion waged by the colonial-settler state Israel have led to substantial hardship for countries throughout the global…

Zahra — a Lebanese citizen from the south of Lebanon — was on her balcony, pouring coffee, telling two journalists — one British, one Lebanese — what it is like to live in a town which has now become inside Israel’s yellow line of occupation, and why she can’t leave. Then BANG!! An Israeli drone had dropped a stun grenade — a flash-bang, the kind police lob to scatter riot crowds — around 30 metres from where they sat. On the recording, you can hear it detonate. You can hear her voice change: https://www.thecanary.co/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Guy-and-Mohamad-—-stun-grenade.wav The translation of the Arabic from the…

Lebanon — On Friday (June 26th,) as the Shia festival of Ashura concluded, protestors took to the streets of South Beirut to vent their anger as news spread of the ‘framework agreement’ between the Lebanese government and Israel. Youth on foot, and riding scooters, blocked the main road to the airport with burning barricades. It took the army several hours to regain control of the area. On paper the deal looks weak, to say the least. Just four out of sixteen parties represented in the Lebanese Parliament are in favour of the agreement. All of them are right-wing and Christian. On…

Sean Rhodes, who has represented Kingswood since 2023, is now South Gloucestershire Council’s first Green Party councillor. Rhodes explained: As part of the South Glos Council administration, we have worked hard to improve the lives of residents in ever more difficult economic circumstances but the Labour government have absolutely failed in their promise to bring positive change to our country. The decisions made by this Labour government are making things worse for working people, and now we see them going through the same political soap opera that the Conservatives did in their end days. The Green Party has a clear focus…

The settler-colonial state of Israel has issued a new displacement order in south Lebanon, following a day of heavy airstrikes and artillery. IDF Arabic spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee posted on X: In light of the terrorist Hezbollah party’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, the Defense Army is compelled to act against it forcefully, The Defense Army does not intend to harm you. The Lebanese citizens under bombardment might beg to differ. Adraae added: To ensure your safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and move away from the villages and towns by a distance of at least 1000 meters to open areas.…
