Thames Water issues massive bonuses to bosses… despite the ban on water bosses’ bonuses

Anybody out there remember Ofwat issuing a ban on water bosses’ bonuses at the tail-end of 2025? Well apparently Thames Water doesn’t — it just increased its senior managers’ bonus payouts to an eye-watering £4.1m. As the Canary reported only yesterday, 15 July, the prospect of public ownership is looming over the failed, sewage-spewing water company. The company is currently buried under £18.5 billion of debt, up from £16.8 billion a year ago, and is set to run out of money at the end of the year. What better time for the bosses to cut themselves a nice fat paycheck, eh? Job well…

British prime minister Keir Starmer issued an apology on Thursday July 2 for the state’s role in forced adoptions over multiple decades. It rings hollow, however, given the man anti-poverty campaigners christened ‘Kid Starver’ continues to fail British families. Forced adoption is the practice of taking a child from parents without their full consent, and transferring that child to a foster family. The British state funded the system which between 1949 and 1976 resulted in the forced adoption of 185,000 children. Jeremy Johnson is the security services-linked judge who sentenced four ‘Filton 25’ activists as terrorists for trying to prevent mass murder. He is also the judge who tried to convict Rajiv Menon KC, one of the defence lawyers, for contempt of court. The appeal court had upheld Menon’s appeal, on procedural grounds, against the first charge Johnson brought, but also said Johnson could award himself the right to try again if he ticked the right boxes.
