Oxford Union condemns Uygur/ Piker visa cancellation but its own hands are dirty

The Oxford Union (OU) has issued a statement condemning the Starmer government for cancelling the entry visas of US anti-genocide speakers Cenk Uygur and Hasan Piker. The pair had been scheduled to speak at an OU debate and were barred by Starmer for their speech against Israel’s genocide and other crimes. But its own free speech record is anything but spotless. The government’s action to please the UK Israel lobby is a disgrace, if an entirely unsurprising one. In a post on X, OU president, Arwa Elrayess, said it would proceed with the event. She added that the cancellation was a…

Right-wingers are in moral panic over government plans in Wales to promote the Welsh language, culture, and history across publicly funded museums. In characteristic fashion, the dog-whistling GB News outlet published an article titled: Plaid Cymru accused of ‘cultural extremism’ and ‘attempting to rewrite Welsh history’ amid plan to decolonise museums. This unsurprisingly frames the progressive initiative in dramatic terms. At the same time, it fails to engage seriously with the issues Plaid seeks to address. Decolonising Wales The newly-formed, Welsh nationalist government said the initiative aims to deliver the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan (ARWAP). This will include the “decolonisation of…

Reform UK’s candidate in the Makerfield by-election is one Robert Kenyon. So far, Kenyon has attracted a great deal of criticism for the things he’s said in the past and the things he’s saying right now. Kenyon isn’t the only one talking nonsense, however, with his party joining in too: He was a Lance Corporal in the Army Reserves. Stop trying to make it out as anything more than it is. He’s also a sexist and a perv. pic.twitter.com/O2Urc8Q0J2 — Reform Party UK Exposed (@reformexposed) May 26, 2026 Reform gets territorial As Reform Exposed notes above, Kenyon was a member of…

UK government trying to ‘cover up’ its ’embarrassment’ over nature and national security report

The government has been accused of seeming to “cover up” its “embarrassment” by trying to hide an explosive report, which revealed the dire state of the climate and biodiversity emergencies. The comments were made after the Cabinet Office rejected a Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request from the Canary, which asked the Prime Minister’s Office to release documents showing discussions between officials about the timing of the publication of the Nature security assessment on global biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and national security. The assessment was published in January 2026 following an FOI request from the Green Alliance think tank. It was…

In a move that reflects the political complexities surrounding the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has appproved Iran to move its football team base from the US to Mexico. The decision came after months of escalating political tension between Tehran and Washington, which had raised concerns within Iranian sporting circles regarding the national team’s participation in the World Cup, co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada. The crisis reached boiling point, with reports that Iran might withdraw from the finals. FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, confirmed that the international federation was committed to the Iranian team participating as normal. He also denied any…

Reform is panicking about a party to its right in Makerfield

Reform UK was once an insurgent political party that aimed to steal hard-right voters from the Tory Party. At first, it seemed like Reform’s goal was to force concessions from the Tories — much like how UKIP did with the Brexit referendum. Surprising many, however, Reform actually ended up overtaking the Tories in the polls. In response, Farage attempted to replace the Conservatives completely by softening some of the rhetoric and accepting bus-loads of Tory defectors. Predictably, this led to another insurgent political party emerging — this time seeking to steal hard-right voters from Reform UK. The party in question is…
