Fossil Free London campaigners disrupted inside the QEII Centre in Westminster while the venue hosted its annual Summer Showcase. This is an invitation-only event marketed to the events industry where companies can find suitable locations for their corporate events. In protest over London venues hosting oil and gas events, five campaigners entered the 40th birthday party event at the QEII Centre and disrupted the event. They requested to give a birthday speech within the DJ booth when they said: Did…

Two Essex police officers in an unmarked car have stopped a jogger in or near Southend on Sea for carrying a Palestine flag. The stop is just the latest in a string of incidents of police harassing or even arresting people protesting peacefully against genocide. Journalist and editor at the Grayzone, Wyatt Reed, published to X the video capturing these moments, first shared by Palestine Pulse. The jogger keeps his cool, records the incident and uses the opportunity to explain that he is upset about Britain’s collusion in Israel’s murder of Palestinian children. The police captured in the recording avoid saying…

Keir Starmer announced his defence investment plan (DIP) today and while the media is welcoming it with open arms (pun intended), the Stop the War (StW) Coalition has rightly called out the BS. The FT said the increase in defence spending of approximately £15 billion was recently raised by £1 billion in the wake of John Healey’s resignation as defence secretary this month. It has apparently been signed off by Starmer’s expected successor, Andy Burnham. Stop the War: ‘Never mind the cost of living crisis…’ Stop the War (StW) Coalition posted on X that generals and arms companies have been all…

The Left Needs to Stop Running From the Past

Before Burnham won the Makerfield by-election, he condemned “40 years of neoliberalism.” Blair retorted: “Back to the 70s?” Many voters cried out: “yes please!” And while people are still making their minds up about Andy Burnham, the truth is many people are disillusioned with the present and are reminiscing on the past as a better time, but a fear of sounding conservative is what keeps the left from channeling that energy. In Makerfield, a new party called Restore Britain outpolled the Conservatives on exactly the logic Blair mocks: that something was taken from us, the proper order of things was broken,…

Hegseth’s tantrum at UK defence secretary Dan Jarvis can’t stop US decline

  • Post author:

US defence secretary Pete Hegseth threw a tantrum at his new UK counterpart Dan Jarvis over a supposed lack of cooperation in the war the US just lost with Iran. As well as this fake claim (the UK cooperated plenty), Hegseth blasted European partners for not doing his bidding during the illegal, unprovoked war. Hegseth and Jarvis were in Europe for a conference of NATO defence ministers. Former US Marine Hegseth, famous for his extreme-right tattoos, reportedly accused: some countries of “free riding” and others of being shameful for not allowing their airbases to be used by US jets bombing Iran…

Watch: Israeli fascist Ben-Gvir — “We cannot stop demolishing homes in Lebanon”

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:18 June 2026

Israel’s fascist ‘security minister’ Itamar Ben-Gvir has said that no matter what is agreed between the US and Iran, Israel “cannot” stop demolishing civilian homes in Lebanon. This, supposedly, is because Israel “must” control the territory from which it has ethnically cleansed more than a million innocent Lebanese people: We cannot stop demolishing houses in southern Lebanon. We cannot stop. We cannot allow the residents of southern Lebanon to return. We must continue to control the territory even if we disagree with (US President Donald) Trump, we are an independent state. Ben-Gvir: We cannot stop destroying houses in southern Lebanon. We…

“Israel’s” ban on ICRC visits ruled illegal, but Knesset moves to stop them permanently

  • Post author:

On 4 June, Israel’s Supreme Court ordered the government to lift the ban on International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visits to Palestinian detainees. It had been in place since 7 October 2023, and affected all those held in Israeli occupation prisons and military detention facilities. Israeli occupation’s ban on ICRC visits to Palestinian detainees is to be reinstated The court found there was no legal basis to justify the continued restriction. It claimed the “Israeli” government’s ban on ICRC visits violated both “Israeli” law and international humanitarian law. The decision was made following a petition by various human rights…

Mothin Ali tells Labour to stop begging the Greens to stand down

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:8 June 2026

There are many people attached to the Labour Party who have argued the Greens should do the ‘decent thing’ and stand down in the Makerfield by-election. The counter-argument to this is why would they? And as the Greens’ deputy leader Mothin Ali has now said: If Burnham can't win an election without the Greens giving him an easy ride, how's he going to beat Reform in a general election? — Mothin Ali (@MothinAli) May 26, 2026 Put up or shut up The Makerfield race may be the most decisive by-election in British electoral history. If Andy Burnham wins, he will almost…

Illegal mink and otter hunts are quietly decimating our river ecosystems all over the UK. And I cannot believe I just had to write that. So, the Canary is calling on our readers to help the Hunt Sabs. Terrorising our waterways The summer hunting season runs from April to October, and it sees hunters taking to our waterways. Pro-Palestine Greens tell party: stop binning candidates to pander to Israel lobby

  • Post author:

The Greens for Palestine group has issued a strong demand to its party functionaries: stop throwing our candidates under the bus to pander to the Israel lobby. The message comes after the Greens’ Makerfield by-election candidate stepped down – presumably pressured – for sharing a post about Golders Green. The group of party members wants to know – who is selecting Green candidates, party members or the Israel lobby, the Zionist Labour party and hostile press? Greens for Palestine call out cowardice dressed as pragmatism It reads: Yesterday, we witnessed yet another chilling example of the same press that has spent over…
