  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

GMB branch secretaries have told the union to “practice what you preach” as they strike for pay and job security. The dispute is the latest in a woeful surge of unions abusing their staff while claiming to represent workers. ‘GMB’s chutzpah is unbelievable’ The branch secretaries say they are being bullied by the union’s management, threatened with summary dismissal and often paid below the legal minimum wage. They are demanding that the union engage in “serious talks” to resolve the dispute. Further strike action is scheduled for Friday 5 June. Their spokesperson, Alex Mitchell, has accused the union of “unbelievable chutzpah”…

US Democratic Party Leader Chuck Schumer joined far-right Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich and other far-right Israeli lawmakers and American politicians in the annual Israel Day Parade in New York City over the weekend. Smotrich, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court,  is openly genocidal and has repeatedly called for Israel to completely ethnically cleanse all 1.8 million people from Gaza, so it can ‘be settled’. Smotrich also called to annex the entirety of the West Bank during a speech at a Jerusalem Day rally last month. Chuck Schumer is marching in NYC alongside a genocidal maniac wanted for war crimes…

Shocking trade union poll is terrible news for Starmer’s Labour

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

A new poll has shown Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is rapidly losing the support of trade unionists. And it seems to be the billionaire-backed Thatcherites and ex-Tories of Reform who are making the most of Labour’s collapse. Trade unionists overwhelmingly say ‘Labour has lost touch’ Right-wing pollster JL Partners, whose co-founders have deep roots in the Conservative Party, asked 1,002 trade union members about political parties and leaders. And although 48% of the members who’d voted in the 2024 general election said they’d opted for Labour, only 28% said they would do the same today. Reform, meanwhile, went up from 16%…

Netanyahu to bomb Beirut civilians for LEBANON ‘ceasefire violations’

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

The Israeli occupation regime is never afraid of rank hypocrisy. Presumably a result of its decades of impunity and the readiness of both western politicians and media to cover for it. That has continued today with coverage of wanted war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s announcement of new airstrikes on Beirut. These are supposedly because Lebanon has been violating the ‘ceasefire’ with Israel. Israel has, of course, been criminally destroying entire villages, murdering families, displacing over a million Lebanese civilians and desecrating ancient religious landmarks. But readers of Western mainstream coverage would struggle to discern this. Instead, Israel is “targeting terrorists”. It has…

Ex-Your Party activists form new Socialist Federation

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

250 delegates representing Your Party branches and former branches across England, Scotland and Wales met in an online conference on 31 May and launched the Socialist Federation. Delegates included representatives of groups in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Coventry, Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Essex, North Devon, Dundee, Newcastle and Cumbria. Attendees said they’d comprehensively lost patience with Jeremy Corbyn and his close-knit entourage, who failed to build on the promise of the mass signups to a new party initiative in summer 2025. And the assembled members and ex members of Your Party agreed to create an initial federal organisation with the aim of…

Chevron CEO shrugs off Hormuz toll, but can he really?

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

Chevron CEO, Mike Wirth, who is the money behind Donald Trump, said his company would not pay a toll to enter the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it is “international waters”. Trump recently threatened to blow up Oman if it, along with Iran, were to charge a toll on the ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Alongside Wirth, Trump also alleged the strait is international waters. The question is: do these Americans really have a choice? Chevron has six vessels under charter in the strait Iran has said: The process of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz by Iran is…

The Labour front bench will not be looking forward to the return of Parliament. On 1 June 2026, after the parliamentary recess, the second set of the Mandelson Files will be released, set to expose the disgraced Epstein-informant’s cosy relationship with senior Labour Party officials. Mandelson and the Policy Network Last week, it was revealed that United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) had flagged Mandelson’s bimonthly conversations with Tamir Hayman, a former Israeli military intelligence chief. Earlier this year, we learnt that UKSV’s recommendation that Mandelson not be granted security clearance was overruled by Foreign Office officials. However, less attention has been…

Corporate Western media appears to celebrate Israel’s Illegal occupation of Lebanon

  • Post author:

Ethnic Cleansing — Several Western corporate media outlets have appeared to celebrate Israel’s illegal occupation of the Crusader-era Qal’at al-Shaqif Castle in southern Lebanon. “Captured a strategic mountain” At this point it sounds like AP is celebrating Israel’s unlawful occupation of Lebanon. https://t.co/b13dCVICHD — Assal Rad (@AssalRad) May 31, 2026 On Sunday, May 31, Israel issued more illegal forced displacement orders to all residents living south of the Zahrani River. The attack suggests that Israel is moving towards attacking the city of Nabatieh. Israel had issued more than 10 displacement orders in the last 24 hours. On Friday, the IOF crossed…

Burnham’s no ‘King of the North – he’s the Menace from Manchester for the left

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

In these quite frankly desperate times for British progressivism, with Keir Starmer’s deeply unpopular government crumbling under the weight of its own timid orthodoxy, many on the left are (still) casting about for a saviour. Enter Andy Burnham, the apparent “King of the North”, Greater Manchester Mayor, and newly energised contender for the Labour leadership. Polls show Burnham is outpacing Starmer among Labour members, which really shouldn’t be too difficult. Burnham’s folksy charm and occasional rhetorical flourishes about public control of essential utilities play rather well in working-class heartlands. So let’s be absolutely clear from the word go. Andy Burnham is…

Canary Catch Up: Sauciness of Rivals and substanceless The Testaments

Hello and welcome to Canary Catch Up. Each week, our resident telly addict Rachel Charlton-Dailey will bring us bang up to date with the shows she’s been obsessed with, what she’s hate-watching, and what she can’t wait to get stuck into. My God, it’s been hot this week, hasn’t it? I’m not made for this weather, but on one of the rare occasions I left my cool house, I saw the fantastic Mike Garry perform his poetry at King Ink in Sunderland. Garry’s poetry is a sharp look at working-class family life. His poem ‘what me mam taught me’ brought tears to…

British company responsible for California chemical leak is building F-35 parts for Israel

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

The military contractor responsible for a huge chemical leak in southern California is also manufacturing parts for F-35 jets for Israel. A 7,000-gallon chemical tank ruptured and threatened to explode at the GKN Aerospace plant in Garden Grove, California, last week. It forced over 50,000 people to evacuate. Crucially, GKN is a British engineering company, headquartered in Birmingham. The tank contains thousands of gallons of methyl methacrylate. This is a highly volatile and flammable substance used to make plastic. Only recently, it was deemed at risk of a major spillage or an explosion. Garden Grove is a predominantly working-class and immigrant city…

Why this stubborn cosmetics tycoon will make you root for a millionaire

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

I don’t usually root for millionaires. In fact, I would say I have a visceral hatred for them. Most corporate biographies offer nothing but exploitative tales of untouchable oligarchs hoarding wealth at our expense. Yet the wild, radical journey of LUSH co-founder Mark Constantine breaks this mould entirely. Hearing about Mark’s humble beginnings, how he experienced homelessness and sleeping under hedges, resonated with me from the start. I’ve been on the streets, and I know how hard it is. The laughter at the launch On Thursday, 28 May, I attended the book launch of Dear John inside the stunning LUSH studio on Beak…

Streeting does Blair’s bidding with call for more drilling

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

On 26 May, the wax-faced war criminal Tony Blair returned with a half-baked essay on what the UK should do next. Among his widely-panned arguments was the suggestion that we need to increase North Sea drilling. And now, like clockwork, the Blairite homunculus Wes Streeting has stepped forwards to make roughly the same argument: Labour should cut national insurance and issue new oil drilling licences for North Sea, Streeting says https://t.co/yWsOYDXf0n — LBC (@LBC) May 31, 2026 New Streeting, New Danger In his essay, Blair wrote: 3. We must prioritise cheaper energy and electrification over net zero and use what is…

Burnham slams ‘desperate’ Farage over vile AI slop-post

  • Post author:
  • Post last modified:9 June 2026

On 30 May, Nigel Farage posted the latest in a long line of dehumanising political ads. Reacting with more good humour than Farage deserved, Makerfield candidate Andy Burnham responded as follows: Are you getting desperate, lad? Maybe keep your crypto millions for something else. — Andy Burnham (@AndyBurnhamGM) May 30, 2026 Using refugees as pawns like this shows that Farage lacks any empathy whatsoever. And if he cares this little for the people who are most in need, we’ve got bad news for anyone deluded enough to think he cares about them. Nasty Nigel Farage later highlighted what he was talking…

Trump loses it as US’s 250th Anniversary plans collapse

  • Post author:

Trump — As we find ourselves in the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, the country is more American than ever. This isn’t a compliment, of course, but it is a way of introducing the chaos we’re seeing around the anniversary planning — chaos even right-wingers are calling out: I’m actually pretty pissed at how badly they’ve bungled America 250. First they tried to invite Milli Vanilli and a bunch of other absurdly washed up geriatric one hit wonders. Then when that didn’t work they decided to convert the event into a Trump rally where Trump will talk… https://t.co/lYo2jUWOLy — Matt Walsh…
